In Memory of James C. "Clayt" Laffin Sr.
The Arlington Professional Firefighters Association was formed in 1974, and was chartered as Local 2393 of the International Association of Firefighters.
Now,
30 years later, the Arlington Professional Firefighters Association is 66
members strong, and it's members are still dedicated to the finest service to
our community that is possible. Working to provide the finest in Fire, Emergency
Medical Services, Fire Prevention, Investigation and Rescue Services, the Association and it's
members are also involved with the Muscular Dystrophy Association fund drives,
the Arlington Car Seat Program, and local sports teams. Additionally, the
Firefighters of Hope Program, which was founded by our own FF (Ret) William E.
Tompkins, donates food to local charities, and "adopts" a family in need during
the holidays and provides them with food, clothing and toys for the children, as
well as other charitable programs
throughout the year. "This program is an extension of what we do.. to take care
of those in need, and give them the hope that things will be better. This is why
we came up with the name." said Tompkins. The program is now administered by
Tompkins' son, William C. Tompkins, who is also a professional firefighter and
member of the Association.
In addition to our charitable activities, the Arlington Professional Firefighters Association works actively with the Arlington Board of Fire Commissioners to develop programs to better serve the Emergency Services needs of the residents, businesses, and visitors to the Arlington Fire District.. As an example, the firefighters association spearheaded the firefighter/paramedic program in Arlington, and continues to work with the district on important safety and health, training, response and district manning initiatives.
The members of the Arlington Professional Firefighters Association are here, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to serve our neighbors, friends, and families here in Poughkeepsie. We will continue to make our community a better and safer place to live for another 30 years... and beyond.
