CHILD SAFETY DAY VASSAR RD. FIREHOUSE

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (PRWEB) June 28, 2006- The Arlington Professional Firefighters, in association with The Skipper Initiative will be hosting a Child Safety Day, Saturday, July 8th from 10am to 2pm, at the Red Oaks Mill Fire Station, 213 Vassar Road, Poughkeepsie, New York.

            Events for the day will include information on SBS – Shaken Baby Syndrome, Child Car Seat checks and installations, with childcare provided for the safety seat checks, a bike rodeo (BYO-Bike), Food, Child Abduction Information, the Arlington Fire Safety House, K-9 demonstrations by the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, Babysitting Information, Child ID and Fingerprinting by the Town of Poughkeepsie Police, and much more! ALL proceeds go DIRECTLY to the Skipper Initiative.

            The Skipper Initiative is a group working to educate parents and caregivers about SBS- Shaken baby Syndrome. SBS is the violent shaking of infants by parents or caregivers in moments of rage or anger. Many people are still not aware that shaking causes brain injuries. The brains of babies and small children up to the age of five are particularly susceptible to such injuries.
